Joining Alpha Phi

Joining a sorority is an exciting and confusing time, and going through recruitment is the first step toward deciding which house is right for you. If Alpha Phi is the sorority you choose, you will find yourself immersed in a sisterhood of women who will help you learn, grow, and achieve through your college years and beyond.

When you join Alpha Phi, you join a worldwide network of more than 150 collegiate chapters, 140 alumnae chapters and 200,000 sisters! Membership in Alpha Phi opens the door to new and exciting opportunities during college and beyond. Sisters share a commitment to excellence and a strong desire to help one another and their communities. Alpha Phis are leaders, scholars, contributors and lifetime members of a sisterhood that values these traits.

Primary Recruitment

Recruitment is a way for potential new members to check out sorority life. Sororities at RPI participate in Fall Primary Recruitment, an experience that occurs over 4 days in September. At each recruitment event, women will have the opportunity to get to know all of the sororities and ask questions about academics, social events, finances, new member programs, scholarship, philanthropy, and sorority life in general. If you’re definitely interested in Greek Life, might consider it, or never even heard of it, go through the fun and exciting time of Primary Recruitment and see what it’s all about!

To participate in Formal Recruitment, register here beforehand! If you want to decide last minute—don’t worry! You can register at the first recruitment event. At Alpha Phi, we are excited to get to know you and help you find your future home at RPI!

Recruitment Recommendations
If you would like to submit a recruitment recommendation, please fill out the form on the Alpha Phi website. Our Vice President of Membership Recruitment checks the recommendation email regularly. We look forward to hearing from you!

Continuous Open Recruitment
Continuous Open Recruitment begins immediately after Formal Recruitment has ended. Each Sorority hosts informal recruitment events to get to know women who may not have gone through Formal Recruitment. COR takes place in the Fall and Spring as the individual sororities see fit. Remember: a sorority that is at or above chapter total (97) after Formal Recruitment is not eligible to recruit any more members.

Important Recruitment Dates and Events

Thursday, September 14th, 2017, 5pm: Rotational 1
During Rotational 1, potential new members will have the opportunity to spend time with every sorority at designated rooms in the Alumni House. A rotational consists of 5 rounds, where women will rotate between each sorority and spend an equal amount of time (~25 minutes) getting to know them.

Friday, September 15th, 2017, 5pm: Rotational 2
Rotational 2 has the same exact format and focus as Rotational 1. At the end of the two rotationals, you will choose the 3 top sororities to attend their House Tour Invitational event the following day.
** You must attend at least one Rotational, House Tours, and Preference to be eligible for a bid **

Saturday, September 16th, 2017, 9am: House Tours
A potential new member can attend up to 3 House Tour events for which you are mutually matched with the houses. House tours last 60 minutes per house where you will get the opportunity to see where each sorority calls home and develop closer bonds with the sisters. After House Tours, you will pick your top 2 sororities to attend their Preference Event.

Sunday, September 17th, 2017, 9am: Preference
Preference is the last chance to develop deep bonds with a sorority and ask any pressing questions before your final decision is made. This event is more formal than the others and more personal. It is important to find your true match! After Preference, you will pick your top 2 houses in the order of which you would like to receive a bid from them. From there, you will be mutually matched with the perfect fit for you!

Sunday, September 17th, 2017, 4pm: Bid Day!
Bid Day is held at the field behind Commons where each potential new member will open their bid cards and find out which sorority they were matched with. Each sorority will also find out for the first time who will be in their new member class. After the reveal on the field, new members will go back to their new sorority for a fun Bid Day event!
